About Bilkent Piano Department
The Faculty of Music & Performing Arts (FMPA) was established in 1986, a mere three years after the founding of its parent institution, Bilkent University. At the time, it was one of only three professional schools existing on Bilkent’s campus grounds. Unique to the FMPA, the school has a combination of academic offerings, ranging from elementary, all the way to the doctoral level – thus combining the pre-college and university departments.
The faculty members of the Piano Department at the FMPA has always been diverse, its instructors hailing from numerous international backgrounds. At the department, there is a busy calendar of lessons, concerts, master-classes with guest artists, and various seminars. The piano department is also the largest of its kind at the school. In addition, numerous graduates have gone on to further advanced studies at conservatories around the globe, including at The Juilliard School, Paris Conservatoire, Tchaikovsky State Conservatory, The Royal College, etc. Many have successful careers; furthermore, some have returned back to Bilkent to serve as instructors, proudly educating the next generation of Turkish and other international pianists.
