Introduction

For the festival, we’ve planned an exciting schedule of lessons, masterclasses, concerts, and a few online seminars. We believe that music students learn most optimally when they are exposed to a wide variety of activities and courses, all related to their major instrument. As can be seen in the organized plan above, each day is specifically tailored in the most efficient way possible, to allow for the maximum number of events, while not overloading the festival participants nor the faculty guest artists.

Lessons

Lessons run for 60 minutes of instruction time. There will be a 10 minute break in between all lessons. Each active participant receives 4 lessons throughout the course of the festival. Each pupil’s lesson will be taught by a different instructor. Over the course of the festival, all students will receive the chance to study with each guest artist at the festival. Please consult the online schedule for lesson locations.

Masterclasses

Masterclasses will be given by each of the four international guest artists. These will be held in the late afternoon, prior to dinner time and after the conclusion of the day’s lessons. The duration for masterclasses is 4 hours.. Four students will be selected to perform; each will receive 55 minutes of instruction time. There will be a 20 minute recess in the middle of the masterclasses. Masterclasses will take place in the Bilkent Concert Hall.

Concerts

Three concerts are planned: The first is the welcome concert – which showcases our invited guest artists for this year’s festival. Each of the guest artists will perform a work of their own choosing.

The second concert is a guest faculty recital. This year, one of our guest artists, Mr. Olivier Gardon, will be presenting a full solo recital on Wednesday evening. The final event is the closing concert; here, the active student participants will have a chance to perform their pieces. Concerts will take place in the Bilkent Concert Hall.

Seminars

Two seminars are currently planned. Both will be presented in an online – zoom format. The topics will relate to piano technique, musicianship, and historicity. Seminars are scheduled for Monday afternoon, and Saturday morning (to account for the time-zone differences of our seminar guests). Seminars will be 60 – 90 minutes long. Seminars will take place in Room 242.

Weekends

Saturday is planned for a day of excursions. The festival will provide transportation to various touristic sites in Ankara and its surroundings. The Bilkent Piano Department will take the festival guest artists on a tour of the city on that day. Saturday is also currently scheduled for one seminar in the morning (to account for time-zone differences with the presenter). Sunday is scheduled for the closing concert in the evening. Note: Due to Olivier Gardon’s recital on Wednesday, his Wednesday lessons will be rescheduled to Sunday instead.
