Bilkent Piano Festival Terms & Conditions
These terms and conditions apply to all services and provisions associated with the Bilkent Piano Festival.
Participation
- Active participants take lessons, perform in masterclasses as well as the closing concert.
- Passive participants have the right to silently observe all lessons, performances, and masterclasses.
- International participants are provided with accommodation + meals included.
- Domestic Turkish participants pay a lower tuition, but have the option of either staying in campus housing, or being responsible for their own accommodation during the course of the festival. If domestic participants elect to live in campus housing, there will be an additional charge.
- All participants in the festival are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Two doses are required, except in the case of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Individuals need to be fully vaccinated before the start of the festival.
Application & Tuition
- Applications can be made by sending the completed application form and the supporting documents (prescreening video for active participants) to pianofestbilkent@gmail.com. The participants must pay the application fee at the same time as the submission of the application form from the link specified.
- The application fee is 250 Turkish Lira, payable on https://stars.bilkent.edu.tr/basvuru, must be paid along with the submission of the application form, and is non-refundable regardless of approval or rejection for participation.
- International, active participants: 750 €
- Domestic, active participants: 400 €
- Passive participants: 100 €
- Bilkent Piano Festival fees comprise no insurance of any kind. Each participant is urged to purchase the relevant third-party insurance packages (e.g. regarding health, accident, personal liability, etc)
- Application deadline: 30 April 2022, at 23:59:59 Turkey Time (UTC +03:00)
- For active participants, the age limit is 14 and older, regardless of the enrolled grade of the participant.
- For passive participants, the age limit is 10 and older.
- There is no upper age limit.
- The prescreening materials must be submitted along with the application to be fully considered for participation in the festival (see below).
Methods and Conditions of Payment
- The active participation fee can be paid in two equal installments. Depending on the results of the prescreening video, this information will be notified by email to those who are entitled to participate actively at the beginning of May.
- As soon as the application form and the first installment (50% of the fees) are received, the participant will receive a confirmation email. The registration becomes a legal binding by means of this confirmation. The participant thereby accepts the payment conditions outlined below. All fees must be paid in full no later than two weeks prior to the beginning of the Bilkent Piano Festival. If not, the registration will be canceled and the place will be given to another participant.
- The first installment is due in May, and the second installment is due in June (dates will be specified in the email).
- If no full payment is received, a follow-up bill for the missing amount will be issued, which must be paid one week before the festival (at the very latest)
Prescreening Requirements (For active participants only)
- The duration of the prescreening video must be 10-15 minutes.
- Videos should be from a recent recording or performance.
- Participants must send a YouTube link of the repertoire below to pianofestbilkent@gmail.com following the submission of the application form and the payment of the application fee.
- Pieces can be recorded separately and then put together in a single link.
- The title of the YouTube video must clearly state the participant’s name and surname.
- The video/audio recording does not have to be a professional product.
- Prescreening videos are due with the application submission.
- Repertoire list for prescreening videos:
- A combined prelude & fugue from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Das Wohltemperierte Klavier or a comparable contrapuntal work from the Baroque period
- A fast, significant movement of a classical sonata (Scherzo movements and other short movements are not within the scope of this category.)
- A virtuosic, fast etude from any time period
Cancellation/Refunds/Changes
- Cancellation of a participant’s enrollment in the Bilkent Piano Festival is possible under the following conditions:
- Application fees are non-refundable.
- In case of cancellation up to two weeks as a result of illness (a written medical certificate is required), “Acts of God” or other natural disasters etc. prior to the start of the program, the participant in question receives a refund of course fees, minus possibly applied bank fees. In case of cancellation one week before the start of a given program, 50% of course tuition fees are refunded.
- No fees of any kind are refunded in case of cancellation less than one week prior to the start of the program.
- Cancellation of a course and/or other aspects of the Bilkent Piano Festival may occur as a result of illness, “Acts of God,” war, COVID pandemic-related restrictions, or otherwise unforeseeable events or developments.
